Mr. Fakhruddin Ahmed

Fakhruddin Ahmed was born in 1931. He obtained M.A in International Relations from Dhaka University in 1952 and joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1954. From 1957-71 he served in different capacities at the Pakistan Diplomatic Missions in Jeddah, New York, Tehran, Accra and at the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad. Following independence of Bangladesh, he was appointed Additional Foreign Secretary in January 1973. He served as Foreign Secretary from October 1974 to November 1975. He served as Ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy (1976-77), to Yugoslavia (1978-1982) and as High Commissioner for Bangladesh to the United Kingdom (1982-1986). He was again appointed as Foreign Secretary (1986-1987) and at the end of the term he formally retired from service. He became Adviser for Foreign Affairs with the rank of Cabinet Minister to the Acting President of Bangladesh (1990-1991).
