The Government has decided to appoint Rear Admiral Akhtar Habib, NGP, ndc, ncc, psc, BN, as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Maldives.
Rear Admiral Akhtar Habib, was commissioned in Bangladesh Navy in the Executive Branch in 1982. He graduated from German Naval Academy with distinction. In his long illustrated career, he commanded all the major ships and bases of Bangladesh Navy. He also commanded Bangladesh Navy Fleet, Chittagong Naval Area, Naval Aviation and Navy’s Special Warfare Force.

British Under-Secretary met Foreign Minister

Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK Simon MacDonald met Foreign Minister A.H. Mahmood Ali, MP at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. This is the first ever visit of a British Under-Secretary to Bangladesh.
Minister A.H. Mahmood Ali MP hoped that the Strategic Dialogue between Bangladesh and UK that is going to be held today will be a successful one and will be able to review all the issues of bilateral interest.

The Representative of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the South Asia, Ambassador Sergey Kapinos presented his Credentials to the Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, M.P, at the latter’s office today.

The Representative of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the South Asia, Ambassador Sergey Kapinos presented his Credentials to the Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, M.P, at the latter’s office today. During the meeting, Ambassador Kapinos updated the Foreign Minister about the recent activities of UNODC in this region. Minister Ali expressed deep appreciation of the Government to UNODC for its continued engagement with Bangladesh.

A high level delegation led by Anisul Huq MP, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Bangladesh has participated in an interactive dialogue with the members of the UN Human Rights Committee on the current human rights situation in Bangladesh on 6 -7 March 2017 in Geneva. The two-day meeting was convened by the Committee for consideration of Bangladesh’s initial report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
