Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato' Ramlan Ibrahim met the Foreign Minister A.H Mahmood Ali, today, 16 May 2017 at the Minister’s Office. Dato' Ramlan Ibrahim is visiting Bangladesh in connection with the first Bilateral Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Bangladesh and Malaysia.
During the meeting, Dato' Ramlan Ibrahim briefed the Foreign Minister on the outcome of the Bilateral Consultations held yesterday. Terming Malaysia as one of our trusted friends, Foreign Minister pointed out the excellent understanding and goodwill prevailing among the highest political level of the two countries. He recalled his meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister in Kota Kinabalu in May, 2015. He highlighted the pool of goodwill that exist between the two countries should be utilised in more trade and investment for economic benefit of the two peoples.
Both sides expressed satisfaction on the ongoing recruitment process of Bangladeshi workforce in Malaysia under “G to G Plus” mechanism. Foreign Minister Ali stressed on the need for maintaining transparency in the system. He requested Malaysia to continue recruiting more workforce from Bangladesh. The Secretary General indicated that they would continue to recruit more workforce from Bangladesh and would open up new areas like mining for Bangladeshi workers.
Secretary General Dato Ramlan expressed Malaysia’s readiness to engage in discussion on the possibility of establishing Free Trade Area (FTA) between the two countries. The Foreign Minister agreed to give it due consideration.
Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali highlighted the advantages of investing in the Special Economic Zones being established by the Government all over the country and encouraged Malaysian investors to come forward to invest there. The Malaysian side showed keenness in this regard and would communicate this to their businessmen and investors.
Dato Ramlan informed the Foreign Minister that Malaysia has been offering training to civilian and law enforcers from Bangladesh and would continue this. Both the sides agreed to ease visa for the genuine businessmen and agreed to take appropriate measures.
The Secretary General Dato ramlan is scheduled to leave Dhaka tonight.
